ROMANCE WRITERS WEEKLY: Fan Fiction

9/29/2015

Picture
You read that correctly, ladies & gentlemen. It's FanFiction week here at Romance Writers Weekly.

If you started over at Sarah Hegger's place, thanks so much for hopping on over. And if you're beginning this journey here, welcome aboard.

I posed this topic to the group, and a few brave souls have taken the challenge.

FanFiction is getting a lot of attention these days. Certain books have opened up the "pull to publish" flood gates, as it were - whether people like it or not. What fandom do you have a thing for? I want the title and opening scene (short or long) that you would give to a FanFiction you might write, if you were so inclined to, that is. :D

Side note & FYI: Definition of FAN FICTION :  stories involving popular fictional characters that are written by fans and often posted on the Internet —called also fanfic, \-ˈfik\

My poison is, of course, Twilight. *smiles*

Would be title: Front Man

Summary: Edward runs one of the area’s top leading entertainment centers on the East Coast.  He doesn’t have the time or patience for mishaps but when Bella decides to crash a concert after a nasty break up and some binge drinking, he might just have to make time.  AH, BxE

I thought about this way back when my husband dragged me to the Van Halen reunion tour, quite a while ago (it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be). So sad it never went any further than this.

* * * * * * * *

“The caterer dropped everything off, right?”

“Yep.”

My arms slide easily through the black jacket I wear every Saturday night and I pull at the recently pressed collar of my white button down until it feels just right.

“And the room is ready?”

“Yep.”

I twist my neck to crack the tension out.

“You got the liquor license renewed, correct?”

My assistant doesn’t answer right away and my feet stop before the rest of my body. My eyes lock in on the silver doors awaiting the two of us at the end of the hallway.  Then I turn to face her, head on.

I'm a solid six foot, two inches tall. Rose has an additional six inches on me. That, combined with the heels she's wearing tonight and the power suit, she's intimidation at it's best.

For everyone else, that is.

“Tell me you got the liquor license renewed, Rose.”

Her lips purse. My head spins.

She wants to laugh.

Laugh.

On the day of the fucking concert.  And not just any concert, mind you. This is the reunion tour of one of the most popular rock bands of the eighties we're talking about.

“Relax, Edward,” she says with a tease in her voice. I can feel the scowl beginning to dip in the middle of my forehead as Rose rolls her deep brown eyes at me.

“Jesus. Yes. I got the liquor license renewed. Happy?”

I continue my walk toward the elevators and she follows.

“Very. Did Emmett double check those cameras at the back entrance? Because last weekend? Not Cool, what happened with the Bastile twins.”

Damn Bastile family. Nothing but a bug up my ass ever since we beat their sales by about double, two years ago.

I hear a snort coming from Rose and I know exactly where her mind just went.

“I don’t have time for this, Rose, just tell me if he-”

“Yes, he got the cameras looked at. Christ, Edward, you'd think you were hosting the queen of England tonight."

May as well be.

“Why do I keep you around, again?”

Seriously, I'm genuinely curious as to my thought processes when it comes to hiring staff.

She flips her hair. "Because you need someone to remind you that you're human every once in a while."

"Funny."

"That too," she chides. My walkie goes off and I pull it out as we enter the elevator. I know who it is. Emmett's the only security detail that uses channel two. And it's never good news when he does.

I take a deep breath and close my eyes. "Please do not start this conversation with 'the twins', Emmett."

"Not this time. But I do need you downstairs, pronto."

His voice is urgent. And if I'm not mistaken, amused.

"What's up?"

"Some chick finagled her way past Seth. Probably harmless, but she's on the loose somewhere down here."

He chuckles.

"What's funny about that?" A fan on the loose is never a laughing matter. Not matter how innocent they seem.

I shrug at Rose, who's giving me her standard, what the hell is going on, look.

"Sorry, boss. I'm watching the play back," Emmett tells me.

"And?"

"It appears that, after she distracted him long enough to bound his hands to the hinge on the back door, she ran off yelling, 'I wanna be an air force ranger' as she pulled down some of the posters along the walls."

Despite the seriousness of the situation, nostalgia takes over and I let out a short huff.

"Like in The Breakfast Club?"

"That's the one."

Oh boy.

The elevator stops at the second floor and I hold the door open for Rose to get off without me.

"You're not coming?"

"Gotta go take care of something downstairs. Tell Mr. Roth I'll be right there."

She nods and then heads off without question. I push the basement floor button and tell Emmett I'll see him in a few. It might be a little longer than that though. I think I'm gonna need to stop by the beer stand, first.

It's gonna be a long night.

*sigh*

Oh, fanfiction, how I miss thee.

The good news is, there's some more fun ideas to read today - I'm heading over to Carrie Elks blog, for example, right now, to go check out what she came up with.

*excited*

Thanks so much for playing along and stopping by to check mine out.

See ya next time!

Um... hello... what????? I want this. And the 'I wanna be an air force ranger' just made me snort loudly at my desk. Luckily I came in early so only one person heard me. :)
